Blog Social Networking
Using the internet has started becoming a popular way of getting information and staying in contact with friends and family. Blogging specifically is a way to be in the know of relevant news. Blogging is becoming so popular that it is widening the gray area between fact and fiction. Currently blogs are being using to speak on everything in the mainstream media.
A good example of this is Obama utilized social media during his campaign. He was able to used numerous social networks to raise money, organize locally, and help get his message across and top his opponents. As a result, he was able to have supporters engaged instantly. (NYTimes)
Another example is the use of facebook and how it compared to the old competitor myspace. It was something new and fresh with a minimalistic design that attracted users of the recent generation. Originally opened to students and then made available to no students had twitter like features for status updates or questions. This allowed users to publish their answers when it showed up instantly on their facebook feed. (BeingThere-NYTimes)
The dark side of these blogs can be false information being spread instantly through the world with the click of a button. A way I see this evolving is the increased focus on privacy. Privacy has been a concern as of late. Social media companies are likely to offer more advanced network and profile privacy which has been in recent updates of applications like instagram.

I think the idea that social media is both our best-friend and our worst enemy would be a summary of your post. Using it for the right purpose, one will be amazed about its power and used wrongly, it can assess real damage to its users. A delicate balance is certainly most required.
