Social Networking: Better or Worse than the Real Thing?
Social media is a great way for people to keep in touch and connect, although at times it is used to replace face to face interaction. In-person communication has the irreplaceable benefit of body language, voice and touch. However, this communication is usually impeded as people tend to ignore each other in group settings while they are distracted by their mobile devices, minimizing the amount of in-person socializing that is actually taking place. To further digest this topic, I will be researching the positive and negative effects of social networking as I have observed them in modern society.
This topic is especially critically in group settings I feel because so many people can be in a room full of friends having a good time and still want to be all in their phones when most of the people they communicate with are around them.
